What is SEL?
“Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.” -CASEL
They’re the foundation of life-long success, they’re the skills we need to be happy, to have healthy relationships, to create and reach fulfilling goals, they’re how we communicate our needs, and help others in a way that’s best for everyone.
As teachers, one of the absolute best things we can do to help set them up for success is to teach them these tools. If you’re thinking you don’t have training or know how to teach the skills, don’t worry, I love helping teachers empower their students through SEL. And I have easy, actionable steps anyone can take.
Why Teachers Love SEL

- More time and energy at the end of the day to focus on YOU, your family, and friends
- Catalysts real change by addressing the root causes of behavior issues (goodbye Band-Aid strategies)
- More time to teach because students are better able to manage themselves
- Fosters positive and healthy relationships between students and teachers
- Teaches students the skills they need to be safe, happy, and successful in the classroom and BEYOND
- Encouraging classroom community results in happier more productive classes
- Students get along better and have more positive attitudes about school
- Freedom to have more fun and engaging activities without behavior issues interfering
- Reduces depression and improves mental health
